Step-by-step explanation:

let father=x

let son = y

A.T.Q

x = 3 y

we know the sum of their ages is 40 so substituting the value of of x we have

3y + y = 40

4y = 40

y = 40/4

y = 10

as y is 10 and x is 3 times y so x = 3*10 i.e 30
