Given :-

  • Sum of the ages of father and son = 40 years.
  • Father's age = 3 times that of his son's age.

To Find :-

  • The present ages of father and son.

Solution :-

Let the present age of father be x years and the son be y years.

According to the question,

⇒ x + y = 40.....( 1 )

And,

⇒ x = 3y........( 2 )

Substituting ( 2 ) in ( 1 ) gives,

⇒ 3y + y = 40

⇒ 4y = 40

⇒ y = 40/4

y = 10

Substituting the value of y in ( 2 ) gives,

⇒ x = 3y = 3 × 10

x = 30

Hence,

  • Age of father = 30 years.
  • Age of son = 10 years.

✰✰ ANSWER ✰✰

\longmapsto\tt{Sum\:of\:Ages=40}

\longmapsto\tt{Let\:Son\:Age\:be=x}

As Given that Father's Age is three times of his son's age...So ,

\longmapsto\tt{Let\:Father\:Age\:be=3x}

A.T.Q : -

\longmapsto\tt{x+3x=40}

\longmapsto\tt{4x=40}

\longmapsto\tt{x=\cancel\dfrac{40}{4}}

\red\longmapsto\:\large\underline{\boxed{\bf\green{x}\orange{=}\purple{10}}}

Now ,

\longmapsto\tt{Present\:Age\:of\:Son=x}

\longmapsto\tt{\small{\boxed{\bold{\bold{\red{\sf{10\:years}}}}}}}

\longmapsto\tt{Present\:Age\:of\:Father=3x}

\longmapsto\tt{3(10)}

\longmapsto\tt{\small{\boxed{\bold{\bold{\green{\sf{30\:years}}}}}}}
