Answer:

Let the age of the son be =x

and the age of the father be=x+46

according to the question:

(x+46)+5=3(x+5)

x+46+5=3x+15

x+51=3x+15

3x-x=51-15

2x=36

x=36/2

x=18

therefore the son's age is 18 years

the father's age is =x+46

=18+46

=64

Let Father's age and son's age be x and y years respectively.

Given that,

Sum of Thier ages = 46

Therefore,

x + y = 46............eq(1)

Again, it’s given that

After 5 years age of father will be thrice his son's age.

After 5 years,

Age of father = x + 5

Age of son = y + 5

According to the question :-

⟶ 3(y+5) = x +5

⟶ 3y +15 = x +5

⟶ 3y -x = -10..............eq(2)

From eq(1)

⟶ x = 46 - y

Putting x = 46 - y in eq(2)

⟶ 3y -x = -10

⟶ 3y - 46 + y = -10

⟶ 4y = 36

⟶ y = 9

Now, substitute the value of y in eq(1)

⟶ x + y = 46

⟶ x = 46 - 9

⟶ x = 37

Hence, present age of father is = 37 years

Present age of son is = 9 years

Ratio :-

Father's present age : Son's present age

= 37 :9
