Sum of ages of father and son is 8 years more than he age of mother. Son was bom when the
mother was 22 years. How old is he famer?​

Let us denote by F, M, and S the present ages of father, mother and son respectively. It is given that sum of present ages of father and son is 8 years more than mother’s age. This gives the equation

F+S = M+8

Or, F+ S -M = 8……………………..,………………(1)

It is given that mother is 22 years older than the son. Therefore,

M = S+22

Or, M - S = 22……………………………………… ..(2)

Adding (1) and (2),

F +S - M + M - S = 8+22 . Cancelling the terms S and M on LHS and adding the terms on RHS,

F = 30, that is the present age of father is 30. Therefore, after 4 years,

Age of father = F+4 = 30+4 = 34 years (Proved)
