The sum of the first five consecutive terms is 250. What is its 3rd term?

Easier way of solving questions like these is to assume the terms in a way that when they are added ,the common difference gets cancelled. For example if a question is given about three consecutive terms then assume the terms to be (a-d),(a),(a+d) so when you add the three terms the common difference 'd' cancels and 3a remains.

Coming to the question assume the terms to be a-2d,a-d,a,a+d,a+2d

Add all the digits and you get 5a which is equal to 250. 5a=250 => a = 50.

Subtracting consecutive terms gives one, because as given they are consecutive. So (a-d)-(a-2d) = d = 1.

Hence a = 50 and d=1.

As assumed the third term is a, hence the third term is 50.
