The Question is :-
Sum of numerator and denominator of a fraction is 12. If the denominator is increased by 3 , then the fraction becomes 1/2 . Find the fraction ?

Ans :-

Let the digit in the numerator be "x" and that in the denominator be "y".
Hence , the fraction would be x/y

A.T.Q.,

x + y = 12 -----> (1)

Also,

x/y+3 = 1/2

i.e.,

2x = y + 3
2x - y = 3 ----> (2)

Adding equations 1 and 2,

x + y = 12
2x - y = 3
-------------------------------
3x = 15

x = 5


x + y = 12

5 + y = 12

y = 12 - 5
= 7

Hence the fraction is 5/7
