• Present age of Amar & Ajay

Let,

• Present Age of Amar = x years
• Present Age of Ajay = y years

Case(1).

(Sum of present ages of Amar and Ajay is 31)

➡ x + y = 31 _________(1)

Case(2)

(Amar age 3 years ago was 4 times the age of Ajay)

➡(x - 3) = 4 × (y - 3)

➡x - 4y = -12 + 3

➡x - 4y = -9 ____________(2)

Subtract equ(1) & equ(2)

➡ y + 4y = 31 + 8

➡5y = 40

➡y = 40/5

➡y = 9

Keep value in equ(1)

➡ x + 8 = 31

➡x = 31 - 8

➡x = 23

Hence

• present age of Amar be (x) = 23 years
• Present age of Ajay be (y) = 9 years
