Sum of present ages of Ammu and Pawan is 31 Ammu as age 3 years ago was 4 times age of Pawan .find their present ages​ ?​

let the present age of Ammu is x years

so present age of Pawan is (31-x)years

3 years ago Ammu was (x-3) years

and Pawan was (31-x-3)years=(28-x) years

so,

(x-3)=4(28-x)

=> x-3=112-4x

=> x+4x=112+3

=> 5x=115

=> x=115/5=23

so, present age of Ammu is 23 years and present age of Pawan is (31-23)years=8years

  • The present age of Ammu = x years

→ Present age of Ammu + Present age of Pawan = 31

→ x + y = 31 ---------(1)

Their ages 3 years ago :

→ Ammu's age = x - 3 years

→ Pawan's age = y - 3 years

According to the second condition,

→ Ammu's age = 4(Pawan's age)

→ x - 3 = 4(y - 3)

→ x - 3 = 4y - 12

→ x - 4y = - 12 + 3

→ x - 4y = - 9 -----(2)

Solving (1) and (2) :
