Sum of present ages of P and Q is 41. Age of P 2 year hence is equal to age of R, 1 year ago. Age of P, 4 year hence is equal to age of Q 1 year ago and ratio of present age of P and S is 3 : 4. Find the difference of age of R and S.

Answer:

3 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the present ages of P,Q,R and S be w,x,y and z respectively.

According to the Question,

w+x=41   --------------------------------(1)

w+2=y-1  ----------------------------------(2)

w+4=x-1  -----------------------------------(3)

w:z=3:4  ------------------------------------(4)

From (3),

w+4=x-1

=>w-x=-4-1

=>w-x=-5   -------------------------------------(5)

Now,

(1)+(5) =>  2w=36

          =>  w=18

Putting w=18 in 5 we get,

18-x=-5

=>-x=-18-5

=>x=23

Putting w=18 in (2) we get,

18+2=y-1

=>y=18+2+1

=>y=21

Putting w=18 in (4) we get,

18:z=3:4

=>18/z=3/4

=>z/18=4/3

=>z=(4/3)*18

=>z=24

So we have,

Present age of R = 21 years

Present age of S =24 years

Hence difference in their ages = 24-21  = 3 years
