let the numbers be x and y let their squares be x^2 and y^2

given  x^2 + y^2=60

           x^2 =60-y^2---------------(1)

         x^2 - y^2 = 12

from(1)

        60 - 2y^2 =12

                 2y^2= 48

                    y^2= 24

       x^2 = 60 - 24

    x^2= 36

     x=6

their sum is

                 6 + root of 24

                 6 +2*root 6

                 root6*(root6 + 2)
