Answer:

"When Sum of the ages of a father and the son is 40 years then age of father will be 3 times that of his son find their respective ages

Let father age is x,

Son age is y.

Then x+y=40 -------- (1)

x=3y ----------- (2)

Substitute x value in equation (2) from equation (1)

3y+y=40 then y=10 and x=30

Answer :-

The age of son and father is 10 and 30 respectively.

Explanation :-

Given :

  • Sum of the ages of son and father = 40 years

  • Age of father = Three times age of the son

To find :

The age of son and father

Solution :

Let the age of son be = x

Therefore, the age of father = 3x

Age of son + Age of father = 40

According to question,

 =  > x + 3x = 40

 =  > 4x = 40

 =  > x =  \dfrac{40}{4}

 =  > x = 10

Hence, the value of x is 10

Now,

The age of son (x) = 10 years

The age of father (3x) => (3 × 10) = 30 years
