Sum of the ages father amd the son is 40 years , if fathers age is three times that of his son , then find their respective ages

Let the son's age be 'x'
Then father's age = 3x
Sum of their ages = 40

3x+x = 40
4x = 40
x = 40/4
x = 10

Therefore x = son's age = 10
4x = father's age = 40
