y(y-46)-14(y-46)=0

ie (y-14)(y-46)=0

ie y-14=0 OR y-46=0

ie y=14 OR y=46

but if we substitute y=46 in (1)

we would get age of father as 14

ie 46>14

so as age of son is never greater than his father y=46 is absurd

so y=14

thus substitute value of y in (1)

we get x=46

so thus age of father is 46 years and that of his son's age is 14 years
