Let the age of son be x,
Let age of father be y
Age of father 5 yrs ago=7(x-5)=7x-35 yrs.
Age of son 5 years ago=x-5 yrs
Sum of ages before 5 yrs =x-5+7x-35=8x-40
Also it is given sum of ages in present is 50 yrs,
so,

8x=80
x=10
So,present age of son =10 years.
Present age of father, x+y=50 yrs
10yrs+y=50 yrs
y=40yrs
