Answer

The new number is greater than the old number by 27, i.e. Adding the two equations, we get 2y = 12 or y = 6. Thus, x = 3. Therefore, the original number is 36.

x+y = 9

original number => 10x +y

new number   =>10y +x

10x + y + 27 = 10y + x

9x +27 = 9y

divide by 9

x + 3 = y

y -x =3

x +y + y - x =9+3

2y =12

y = 6

x = 3

old number => 36

new number => 63
