GIVEN :-

  • a polynomial x² + 5x + 6.

TO FIND :-

  • The sum of zeroes (ɑ + β).

SOLUTION :-

By splitting the middle term , we will factorise the given polynomial

➳ x² + 5x + 6 = 0

➳ x² + 3x + 2x + 6 = 0

➳ x(x + 3) + 2(x + 3) = 0

➳ (x + 3)(x + 2) = 0

➳ x + 3 = 0 , x + 2 = 0

➳ x = -3 , x = -2

ɑ = -3 , β = -2

Now , according to question we have to find the sum of zeros (ɑ + β) of the given polynomial .

➠ ɑ + β = -3 + (-2)

➠ ɑ + β = -3 - 2

➠ ɑ + β = -5

Hence the sum of zeros (ɑ + β) of the given polynomial is -5
