Let the middle number be x. Then the 3 numbers will be, x-1, x and x+1. Therefore x-1+x+x+1=51. Therefore: 16+17+18= 51....

Let the smallest of three consecutive number be x, thus other two consecutive numbers be x + 1 and x + 2.

As per the statement, sum of these three consecutive numbers is 51. As such

x + x + 1 + x + 2 = 51

3x + 3 = 51

3x = 51 - 3

3x = 48

x = 48/3

x= 16

The smallest of three consecutive number is 16. Other two numbers are

x + 1 = 16 + 1 = 17

x + 2 = 16 + 2 = 18

Thus three consecutive numbers are 16, 17 and 18.
