one number = x
consecutive number = x +1

x + x+ 1 = 31
2x = 30
x = 15

numbers= 15, 16

difference in squares = 16^2 - 15^2
= 256 - 225
= 31

2n=30n=15
numbers are 15,16

16×16-15×15
difference is also 31
