Given :

Sum of two consecutive whole number is 63.

 \:

To Find :

The smaller number ?

 \:

Explanation :

Sum of two consecutive whole numbers is 63.

Let,

  • One number = x
  • Other number = x-1

Now,

 \sf \implies Sum \: of \: two  \: consecutive  \: whole  \: numbers  =  63 \:

 \sf \implies \: (x) \:  + (x - 1) = 63

 \sf \implies \: 2x - 1 = 63

\sf \implies \: 2x  = 63 + 1

\sf \implies \: 2x  = 64

 \displaystyle\sf \implies \: x  =   \cancel\frac{64}{2}

\textbf{ \textsf{  \red{⟹ \:  \large \underline{\boxed{\textbf{ \textsf{x  =  32}}}}}}}

∴ One number is x = 32

∴ Other number is x-1 = 32-1 = 31

 \:

Verification :

 \sf \implies Sum \: of \: two  \: consecutive  \: whole  \: numbers  =  63 \:

Substitute 32 in the place of x

\sf \implies \: (x) \:  + (x - 1) = 63

\sf \implies \: (32) \:  + (32- 1) = 63

\sf \implies \: 32 \:  + 31= 63

\bf \implies \: 63= 63

L.H.S = R.H.S

Hence verified !!

 \:

Note :

Suppose x = 1

Then the other number = x-1 = 0

Here, 0 consider as whole number

So, I have taken x and x-1

Because the two consecutive numbers are whole numbers.
