let forces be A and B

A is smaller and B is bigger

since resultant is 4 they should be at obtuse angle.

A+B =8

and according to triangle law of vector addition ,

B is hypotenuse and A and the resultant are base and perpendicular of the triangle.

so,. A²+ 4²= B²

B²-A² = 16

(B-A)(B+A) = 16

and B+A is 8. so B-A is 2

therefore solving these equations we get

A=3

B=5.

this is the answer to your question.
