Let the numbers be x and y
x > y
x + y = 7 ........... (a)
x - y = 1 ............... (b)
Solving by equating the coefficients method.
Adding (a) and (b), we get
2x = 8 [(+y) and (-y) get cancelled.]
Therefore x = 8 ÷ 2
= 4
Therefore the value of the first number (x) is 4.
The value of second number (y) = 3
x + y = 7
4 + y = 7
y = 7 - 4
y = 3
Answer :- The value of the numbers are 4 and 3 respectively.
