x + y = 35 \\ x - y = 13 \\ 2x = 48 \\ x = 14 \\ 14 + y = 35 \\ 35 - 14 = y \\ 21 = y

14 & 21

LovelyG: Difference is 13 but 21 - 14 = 7, your answer is wrong

Answer:

Let the numbers be x and y respectively.

According to the question;

x + y = 35 .....(i)

x - y = 13 ......(ii)

For eqⁿ (i),

x = 35 - y

Putting the value of x in (ii),

x - y = 13

⇒ 35 - y - y = 13

⇒ 35 - 2y = 13

⇒ - 2y = 13 - 35

⇒ - 2y = - 22

⇒ y = 22/2

⇒ y = 11

Putting the value of y in (i)

x + y = 35

⇒ x + 11 = 35

⇒ x = 35 - 11

⇒ x = 24

Hence the required numbers are 11 and 24.
