sum of two number is 60 .the greater number is 8 than thrice the smaller number . find the number ​

Answer:

Let the first and second number be x and y respectively.

According to question,

x+y=60

x=60-y .......(1)

x+8=3y ......(2)

Put (1) in equation (2)

60-y+8=3y

68=4y

y=68÷4

y=17

Put y=17 in (1)

x=60-17

x=43

Therefore the two numbers are 17 and 43.

Let x be the smaller no

The greater no=3x+8

Sum of the nos=x+3x+8=60

4x=52

x=13=Smaller no.

So greater no.=3×13+8=47
