2x+15 = 85

2x = 85-15=70

x=70/2=35

first no. = x  = 35

second no. = x+15 =50

Sol:-

let one no. be x

let the other no. be y

then according to question

x + y = 85 …… ( 1 )

x – y = 15 …… ( 2 )

from eq 1

x = 85 – y …… ( 3 )

now sub eq 3 in eq 2

then

( 85 – y ) – y = 15

85 – 2y = 15

–2y = –70

y = 70/2

y = 35

now sub y = 35 in eq 3

then

x = 85 – 35

x = 50

Hence the numbers are 50 & 35
