Let the first no. be x and the second no. be x + 15

ATQ

x + (x + 15) = 95

x + x + 15 = 95

2x + 15 = 95

2x = 80

x = 40

Hence, the numbers are 40 and 55 ( x + 15 = 40 + 15 => 55 )

Question:-

  • sum of two number is 95 if one exceeds the other by 15 find the number

Answer: -

  • 40 and 55

Assumption:-

  • Let the number be x.

  • So, the other number is (x + 15).

Solution: -

According to the question,

(x + 15) + x = 95 ( Given )

2x + 15 = 95

On transposing 15 to RHS , we obtain

2x = 95 - 15

2x = 80

x = 80/2 {On transposing 2 to RHS , we obtain}

x = 40

Now , putting x = 40

then, second number (x + 15) = 40 + 15

= 55

Hence, the first number is 40 and the second number is 55
