Let one of the numbers be= x.
Then, the other number becomes x + 15
According to the question,
x + x + 15 = 95
⇒ 2x + 15 = 95
⇒ 2x = 95 - 15
⇒ 2x = 80
\Rightarrow x=\frac{80}{2}⇒x=
2
80
⇒ x = 40
First number = x = 40
And, other number = x + 15 = 40 + 15 = 55
Answer :-
The numbers are 45 and 70.
Step-by-step Explanation
To Find :-
- The numbers.
★ Solution
Given that,
Sum of two numbers = 115
One number exceeds the other by = 25
Assumption
Let us assume one number as (x) and the other which exceeds as (x + 25). Therefore,
- (x) + (x + 25) = 115
On Solving,
→ (x) + (x + 25) = 115
→ x + x + 25 = 115
→ 2x + 25 = 115
→ 2x = 115 - 25
→ 2x = 90
→ x = 90/2
→ x = 45
After simplifying, We got, The value of x as 45.
Now, According the question,
The numbers are :-
- (x) = 45
- (x + 25) = 45 + 25 = 70
Hence, The numbers are 45 and 70.

- (x) + (x + 25) = 115
By putting the value of the numbers in LHS and simplifying,
→ (x) + (x + 25)
→ 45 + 70
→ 115
Now, LHS = RHS = 115
Hence, Verified!
