Answer:

a+b = 26

=) a = 26 - b : equation 1

a - b = 2 : equation 2

substitute 1 in 2

=26 - b - b = 2

= 24 = 2 b

so b = 12

a+b = 26

a + 12 = 26

therefore a = 14

Answer:

sum = x + y = 26 ----  > (i)

from(ii)

difference = x-y =2 --->(ii)

x = 2 + y ---->(iii)

by \: putting \: the \: value \: of \: x \: from

(iii) \: to \: (i)

(2 + y) + y  = 26

2 + 2y =26

2y = 26 - 2

2y = 24

y  = \frac{24}{2}

y = 12

x = 2 + y

x = 2 + 12

 x = 14
