let the two numbers be x and y respectively

sum of 2 numbers is 27

x + y = 27 _____(1)

one number is exceeded other by 4

x - y = 4 ______(2)

by adding eqn we get

2x = 31

x = 31/2

x = 15.5

y = 11.5

Answer:

we have a puzzle here. we don't know the numbers. we have to find them .

let the smaller number ' X' then the bigger number will be 'X+4'.

but it is given that sum of these two numbers is 27.

Step-by-step explanation:

  • x+x+4 = 27
  • 2x+4 = 27
  • since, 2x = 27-4
  • 2x= 22
  • x= 22/2
  • x= 11
  • therefore the smaller number= x= 12 and bigger number = x+4 = 11+4 = 15
