Let the two numbers be x and y (x > y)

By the given conditions,

sum of the numbers = 32,

then x + y = 32 ..... (1)

and difference of the numbers = 8

then x - y = 8 ..... (2)

Now adding both (1) and (2) no. equations, we get

x + y + x - y = 32 + 8

or, 2x = 40

or, x = 20

From (1), we get

20 + y = 32

or, y = 32 - 20

or, y = 12

Therefore the two numbers are

20 and 12.
