Answer:

let the no.s be x and y..

Step-by-step explanation:

A/q,

x+y=40........1

x-y=6...........2

Adding 1 and 2 we get

2x=46

x=23

putting x=23 in equation 1 we get

23+y=40

y=40-23

y=17

Therefore the numbers are 23 and 17......

Answer :-

  • Those numbers are 23 and 17.

Given :-

  • Sum of two numbers is 40 and their difference is 6.

To Find :-

  • Those numbers.

Solution :-

Let the numbers be x and y

→ Sum of x and y is 40

  • x + y = 40 ...i)

→ Difference of x and y is 6

  • x - y = 6 ...ii)

→ Add i) and ii)

⇒ x + y + (x - y) = 40 + 6

⇒ x + y + x - y = 40 + 6

⇒ x + x + y - y = 46

⇒ 2x = 46

⇒ x = 46/2

⇒ x = 23

Put the value of x in eq ii)

⇒x - y = 6

⇒23 - y = 6

⇒y = 23 - 6

⇒y = 17

Hence, those numbers are 23 and 17 respectively.
