Also, it is given that one number exceeds the other by 3

So, let us assume one number to be x

Then the other number will be x + 3

So, x + x + 3 = 45

          2x + 3 = 45

                2x = 42

                 x = 21

So,  x+ 3 = 21 + 3

             = 24

Hence, the two numbers will be 21 and  24 respectively
