The numbers are :

  • The first number = 23.
  • The second number = 33.

Given :

  • Sum of two numbers = 56.
  • The second number is 10 more than the first number.

To Find :

  • The numbers.

Solution :

Let,

The first number be x.

The second number be x + 10.

Given,

The sum of both the numbers is 56.

That means,

First number + Second number = 56

⇒ x + (x + 10) = 56

⇒ x + x + 10 = 56

⇒ x + x = 56 - 10

⇒ 2x = 46

⇒ x = 46 / 2

⇒ x = 23

So, the numbers are :

★ The first number = x = 23.

★ The second number = x + 10 = 23 + 10 = 33.

Hence,

The both numbers are 23 and 33.

Verification :

Given,

The sum of the two numbers = 56

That means,

First number + Second number = 56

Now we have,

★ The first number = 23.

★ The second number = 33.

Substitute both the values.

⇒ 23 + 33 = 56

⇒ 56 = 56

R.H.S. = L.H.S.

• L.H.S. = left hand side.

• R.H.S. = right hand side.
