Solution :

Let the smaller number be x

And the greater number be 3x + 8

Sum of these two numbers = 60 ...[given]

According to the given condition

x + 3x + 8 = 60

➾ 4x + 8 = 60

➾ 4x = 60 - 8

➾ 4x = 52

x = 13

Smaller number ➾ x

13

Greater number ➾ 3x + 8

➾ 3 × 13 + 8

➾ 39 + 8

47

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

>>>Let two numbers be x be the smaller number and y be the greater number.

From first condition,

x+y=60

From 2nd condition,

3x+8 =y

3x-y =-8

Adding equation 1 and 2

x+y=60

+3x-y =-8

x=13

substituting x=13 in equation 1

x+y=60

13+y=60

y=60-13

y=47

Smaller number is 13 and greater number is 47
