Sum of two numbers is 73. First number is 2 less than half of the second
number. Find the numbers.​

2nd no. = 50

Solution:

Let the 1st no. be x .

Then the 2nd no. will be (73-x).

[ Sum = x + (73-x) = 73 ]

According to the question,

First no. is 2 less than half of the second no.

Thus,

=> x = (73-x)/2 - 2

=> x = (73 - x - 2•2)/2

=> 2x = 73 - x - 4

=> 2x + x = 73 - 4

=> 3x = 69

=> x = 69/3

=> x = 23

Hence,

1st no. = x = 23

2nd no. = 73 - x = 73 - 23 = 50
