Answer:

1st number = x

2nd number = x + 3

Sum = 95

x + (x + 3) = 95

x + x + 3 = 95

2x + 3 = 95

2x = 95 - 3

2x = 92

x = 92/2

x = 46

Hence 1st number = x

= 46

2nd number = x + 3

= 46 + 3

= 49

Hope it helps

Given:

Sum of two numbers is 95

One number exceeds the other by 3

To find:

The numbers = ?

Solution:

Let x and y be the number

x + y = 95 ------(1)

x = y + 3 ------(2)

From (2)

x - y = 3 -----(3)

Adding (1) and (3)

x + y + x - y = 95 + 3

2x = 98

x = 98/2

x = 49

Substituting value of x in equation (3)

x - y = 3

49 - y = 3

49 - 3 = y

y = 46

Answer:

Therefore, the numbers are 49 and 46

Verification:

Substituting value of x and y in equation (1)

x + y = 95

49 + 46 = 95

95 = 95

Thus, LHS = RHS

Hence, verified
