Speed = Distance / time
so time = distance / speed
distance = 2.4km or 2400m
speed = 6m/s
therefore time taken = 2400/6 = 400seconds or 6.67 minutes.

The time taken by Sumit to reach the college is 400 sec.

Concept used:

First, convert the given distance into metre because speed is in metre per second then use the formula to find the time.

Formula used:

Speed = Distance covered ÷ Time taken

Time taken = Distance covered ÷ Speed

Given:

Distance covered by Sumit from his house to reach his college on a scooter = 2.4 km

Speed of a scooter from house to college = 6 metre per second

To find:

The time taken by Sumit to reach the college

Solution:

Step1:

Convert 2.4 km into metre

1 km = 1000m

2.4 km = 2.4 × 1000 m = 2400 m

Distance in m = 2400 m

Step2:

Find the time taken by using the formula

Distance in m = 2400 m

Speed of a scooter = 6 metre per second

Time taken = Distance covered ÷ Speed

Time taken = 2400 m ÷ 6 metre per second

Time taken = 400 sec

Hence, the time taken by Sumit to reach the college is 400 sec.
