Answer: Passing marks will be 85.

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have given that

If Sumit got 30% of maximum marks , he failed by 10 marks = (-)10

If Sujith got 40% of maximum marks , he got 15 marks more than the passing marks = (+)15

Let the maximum marks be x.

According to question,

\frac{40}{100}x-\frac{30}{100}x=15-(-10)\\\\\frac{10}{100}x=25\\\\x=\frac{25\times 100}{10}=250

Hence, the maximum marks will be 250.

And the passing marks in the examination will be

\frac{30}{100}\times 250+10\\\\=75+10\\\\=85

Hence, passing marks will be 85.
