Let the marked price be x.

The selling price is at a discount of 10% of the marked price :

Selling price = 0.9x

The cost price = 0.9x × 100/125 = 0.72x

The selling price = 0.9x

0.9x = 769.50

X = 769.50/0.9

X = 855

Marked price = 855

The buying price is :

855 × 0.72 = 615.60

Had he not made the given the discount:

The profit would have been :

855 - 615.60 = 239.40

239. 40/ 615.6 × 100 = 38.89%

= 38.89%
