Answer:

The following steps can be followed to write an chemical formula :-

(a) Write the symbol of elements one after another. You can perfer the metal name to be written first.

(b) Below the symbol of the element, write down the respective valency of the element.

(c) Criss-cross the valencies diagonally with the symbol of element present at other end.

(d) write down the respective valency to the element formed by the criss-cross method as subscript of the respective element.

(e) If the valency is 1, Don't write it with the corresponding element.

Ex:-

Element - Na Cl

Valency - 1+ 1-

Now after Criss-cross method we get NaCl and we don't mention the valency 1.

Al O

3+ 2-

=> Al 2 O 3

Explanation:

step1: Write the symbol of the elements that form the compound.

step2: Write their valencies on top of their symbols as superscripts.

step3 If the valencies are identical ,cancel the valencies. If the valencies are different , then interchange the valencies wth respect to the symbols by making arrows and write them as subscript.

step4: Simplyfy the formula by dividing the valencies by a common number, if divisible.

step5: The valency of 1 need not be written in the final formula.
