Poem “On His Blindness” is a life story sonnet in which Milton meditates on his own lack of sight. For most of his life, he had been able to see perfectly, however his late-night studying and writing on behalf of the government of the short-lived English Republic, in which he held a very outstanding position, helped damage his eyes . This sonnet — written in the “Petrarchan” rhyme scheme related to the fourteenth-century Italian .The sonnet is therefore a normal Petrarchan sonnet in form, however in problem matter, the poem departs from the topics usually related to Petrarchan poems. Petrarch changed into most famous for writing about love; John Milton departs from that traditional topic to address a very practical, very physical problem, but a problem with many broader religious implications.
