Answers
Once the author AJ Cronin was on a travel on a cruise. During the travel, he realized that somebody was making a keen observation about him. A few days later the person approached the author with his wife and introduced himself as Mr John. John asked Cronin if the latter could recall who he was. When the author replied in the negative, John, was disappointed and reminded him of an incident that took place two and a half decades back.
Mr John was a poor orphan who stole some money from the office where he was employed. Afraid of being caught, he attempted suicide. However, Cronin not only treated him, but also gave him some money to replace the stolen amount. Years later after he grew up, Mr John became well off and spent his earnings on charity to help orphan kids.
The author felt that this was the best investment he ever made. Investment did not always have to be money. In the author’s case, it was the transformation of John who grew up to be a kind-hearted person serving the needy.
