Claude McKay poem “A Prayer” comes with a sentiment that hits the universe. It has an acknowledgement of that "borrowed breath" that is called as life.

It has an idea in that life is precious, transient and, in a sense, "borrowed" for it is not ours to create nor to give -- but to borrow.

            Summary of a prayer poem

This poem describes about the different modes of prayer that is present in the modern age and these types of prayers help people in certain times of desperate situations. It describes a situation where the person falls out of options and even after prayer, the same situation continues. This makes the person run out of faith too. Some simple things can bring a happy moment back to our memory and we again bring faith to our life.

The poem contains different such descriptions which include reconnecting nature and also the calling of a mother towards her child. She even mentions the BBC Shipping Forecast about its regularity in broadcasting peace in one’s life.
