Answer:

Some boys were returning to school from their homes by train after the holidays. One of the witty boys among them started to compose a silly rhyme playing on the name of the teacher. Kali Kumar became kalo kumror balidan—‘the sacrifice of the black pumpkin’—which had all of the boys shrieking with laughter. At Adkhola station, an elderly gentleman boarded the train with his bedding rolled in a kantha blanket. There were a couple of terracotta pots that had been covered with cloth, a tin trunk, and a few bundles.

Answer:

A rat on the train is a short story by Rabindranath Tagore.

SUMMARY:

the story begins with a group of children on a train, protesting amongst themselves when they learn that their Sanskrit teacher has been replaced by a new teacher named Tarkalankar. They are not impressed by the prospect of learning from a new teacher, and they jestingly refer to him as "Kalo kumro tatka Lanka." Soon later, an elderly man gets aboard the train with two sizable earthen pots, a large trunk, a few bundles, and a bedroll. He calmly sits in a corner after asking the children not to be bothered by his presence because all the other coaches were already occupied. He engages the kids in conversation.

When the elderly man goes away to wash, the kids decide to eat from his earthen pots, only to bother him. The children inform the old man when he comes back that there are rats on the train and they stole his food. But the kind old guy knew better and informs them that if he had known about the rats, he would have brought extra food. the boys didnt like him in the beginnning but eventually grow fond of him, when he buys them food. Soon after discovering that the old guy teaches Sanskrit, the boys invite him to teach the subject at their school. The boys' school secretariat welcomes the elderly man when they finally get to their destination. The kids are shocked to discover that the old guy is none other than their new Sanskrit teacher, Master Tarkalankar.

a rat on the train is a fascinating little tale that advises us to show kindness and generosity to everyone and refrain from passing judgment on those we don't know.
