The poem Tiger in The Zoo, written by Leslie Norris beautifully shows the difference between the tiger's life in it's natural habitat and his life in zoo.

The poet says the stripes on the skin of the tiger can be identified from far away. The tiger slowly moves to and fro with his soft paws along the length of cage. He can't go far as the space within the cage is small. The tiger feels a suppressed anger within but he knows he's helpless.

The poet then turns away from reality and imagines a life of the tiger in the forest. The tiger in the forest moves silently through the bushes and hides near the water body. He waits there until he hunts his food by himself.

But in reality the tiger is locked up in the cage with all his strength behind bars. He takes no interest in the visitor as he consider them devoid of any feeling.

The tiger should have been moving bear the village and making sounds. So that making them afraid of his existence and warning them not to smdestroy forest.

The poem ends in an emotional tone. The tiger stays awake till late night. The tiger hears the voice of patrolling cars of the zoo keeper.

He stares at the twinkling stars with his bright eyes, remembering his good old days in forest as if asking God why his freedom has been curtailed.
