Answer:  Balyakalasakhi is a Malayalam romantic tragedy novel written by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer. Published in 1944, it is considered by many as Basheer's best work. The story revolves around Majeed and Suhra, who are in love with each other since childhood. By Basheer's own admission, the story is largely autobiographical.

Explanation: A childhood romance between neighbors turns into passionate love during adolescence. Majeed's father was once wealthy, so could send him to a school in a distant city, although he was not very good at studies. Suhra's father, on the other hand, found it difficult to make ends meet. Still, he wanted to send his daughter to school, who was good in studies. But after the death of his father, all his hopes of further studies were dashed. Majeed begs his father to sponsor Suhra's education, but he refuses.

Majeed leaves home after a scuffle with his father and travels far and wide for a long time before returning home. Upon his return, he finds that his family's former affluence has ended and that his beloved Suhra has married someone else. He is saddened by the loss of love, and this is when Suhra comes to his house. She is a shadow of her former self. The beautiful, sunshiny, vibrant Suhra of old is now a woman worn out by life, battered hard by a loveless marriage to an abusive husband. Majeed commands her, "Suhra, don't go back!" and she stays.

Majeed leaves the house once again, but this time he has plans in mind. He needs to find a job to overcome poverty, and thus ends up in a north Indian city. He gets a job as a salesman, but one day he meets with a bicycle accident in which he loses a leg. The day after he is discharged from the hospital, he is informed that he has been fired. He knocks on every door in search of a job again and locks his soles. He gets a job washing dishes in a hotel. As he cleans the dirty dishes every day, he dreams of Suhra coming back home and waits for her to return. Before he can eventually marry the woman of his life, he must make enough money to return home and pay off debts. Her mother writes to her that Suhra is ill and Suhra later died.
