1.The Lost Child

The story is about a child and his parents who are going to a fair. On their way to the fair, the child sees a toy shop and asks his parents to buy him a toy, but, his father stared at him and he understood the father's silent "No". Then to divert his mind, his mother called him up to the mustard field. The Child saw various things on his way to the fair such as insects, doves, butterflies and so on. In the fair also, he sees various things such as sweets and balloons, but he didn't request his parents because he knew what would be the reply. So, he mumered and moved on. On reaching the roundabout, he couldn't resist himself and made a bold request saying that he wants to go on the roundabout and when he turned back for the reply, his mother and father were not there!!! He was confused and ran here and there. He ran to the shrine and fell down. It was then that the kind man came to help him. He offered him everything that he wanted earlier but the child refused and cried for his parents. This shows that the child's parent's were the center an the meaning of his life and all the luxuries in the world were meaningless to him without his parents.

The writer has kept the story ending open, and we may assume that the child met his parents later, as he was not the only one who was finding his parents, but, his parents were also finding him.

2.The Fun They Had

The Fun They Had by ISAAC ASIMOV is a futuristic story set in 2157 AD. The story writer envisions what the schools and education system will look like in 23rd century.

The story opens with Margie writing in her diary about an old book that Tommy had found. Margie remembers her grandfather once talked about his grandfather who went to an actual school where the children went for education and where they were taught by human teachers.

However, Margie and Tommy live in the future world of 23rd century where education was completely computerized. They don’t have schools; they have a special study room where a computer teaches them. The computer teacher is programmed and adjusted according to the needs of each child. Now and then the computer teacher develops some fault which is fixed by a County Inspector.

Both Tommy and Margie wonder at the book found by Tommy in his attic. They wonder at the book as they read books on screen of computer teacher. Margie feels the computer teacher is boring; she does not like the mechanical teaching and learning. She also wonders how much fun would it be studying in a school with other children from a human teacher.

4.Wind

Poem Wind composed by SUBRAMANIA BHARATI and translated by A.K. Ramanujan is a beautiful poem that describes the might of wind.

In the first stanza the poet requests the wind to come softly and not to break the windows and not to scatter the papers. She also requests the wind not to throw down books from the shelf.

The poet complains to the wind that in spite of her request, it blew strongly and threw the books from the shelf; it tore their pages. It brought the rain.

In the second stanza the poet says the wind is very clever; the wind god makes fun of the weaklings and crumbles and crushes weak houses, doors, rafters, wood, bodies, lives and hearts. The wind god just does what it likes.

In the last stanza the poet suggests that we should all try to build strong homes, doors, bodies, and steadfast hearts; if we become strong the wind will be friend to us. The wind supports the strong but extinguishes weak fires. The friendship of wind is good. And we should praise the wind god every day.
