Iswaran is a very good story teller.

He is adomestic assiatant for mahendra.

Apart from the household chores, and cooking he is is very good at entertaining his master with his story telling skills.

The story could have ended on a positive note rather than mahendra resigning his job unable to prove the ghost theory

Ishawaran The Storyteller by R.K Laxman is a story about a junior supervisor, Mahendra, and his cook Ishwaran. As ordered by head office, Mahendra had to move from place to place. On the other hand, Ishwaran used to take care of Mahendra's clothes, meals and also chatted with him every night. During Ishwaran's spare time, he was fond of Tamil thrillers and read them. Therefore, by creating his own story he told one story to Mahendra and he listened with patience and without finding any errors in the storytelling.

Often, Ishwaran narrated about elephants in his stories.

At one fine day, Ishwaran talked about ghosts and the spirits of the ancestors. He further adds that the place where they are living was once a burial ground. Then Ishwaran informs him that he had never been scared of ghosts though he has encountered them. He tells that on a full moonlight a woman is seen who carried a foetus in her arms and is moans. This story terrifies Mahendra allot. He tends to hear a low voice during full moon night. He peeps out f his window to confirm and flung himself and realizes that he was dreaming. Whereas, Ishwaran question Mahendra grinningly that “Sir, you were angry with me the other day when I told you about the ghost but didn’t you see her yourself last night ?” and at last, Mahendra decides to leave that haunted place and job and decides to not to listen to Ishwaran's questions.
