Katy’s name was Katy Carr. They were six brothers and sisters – four girls and two boys. Katy was the oldest.

Aunt Izzie, their father’s sister, came to take care of them. These children had developed a game called kikeri

which they had been playing a year before.

Kikeri was a game which had been very popular with them a year before. They had invented this game

themselves, and had chosen for this a queer name - Kikerie out of an old fairy story. This game was a sort of

mixture of Blind man’s Buff and Tag – only instead of anyone’s eyes being bandaged, they all played in the dark
