Summary of A House is not a Home:

This story reflects adolescent struggles and growing up issues. In our lives such changes often happen that our lives become unbearable to us and we (teenagers) want this life to be over. But we again find the changes that make us fully enjoy life. The same things occur with the author in this story. When he joins a high school he finds himself in such an awkward position. His house caught fire after a few days and he thought his life ended. But when he was showed concern by his friends, his entire view of life changed and he became interested in life again.

The story is based on the theme of teenagers ' transition issues. Routine life problems seem to children in their growing years to be serious and difficult. We do not appreciate the little gifts that life offers and focus on the small things we lack. It takes time, but love and support from the people around helps you to build up your faith in life's goodness. Zan was forced to think about death, the ultimate way to escape, through the changes in his life. Nevertheless, his fellow students ' genuine concern showed him that his fear and insecurity were unjustified. With the support of his new friends, he interacted with life.
