The poem Fire and Ice by Robert Frost has a strong idea behind it. In this poem the poet expresses his opinion about the causes of destruction of world.

.

According to him, the fire is the first thing to destroy the world. He says fire should have foremost position for destroying world. Here fire is compared with desire of human. Desire propels in hot pursuit of achieving something. Like fire, as desire gets something it asks for more. The poet says Desire of human has the power to destroy earth. The desire of human has already destroyed much of the environment. It has also destroyed the feelings of human towards other. In the competition of getting more, the human have lost compassion.

.

.

Then poet says, ice is also powerful to destroy earth. Ice is compared to hatred. Ice makes our hands numb when put on it. Similarly the hatred makes us numb towards other's feelings. Hatred grows within oneself without any knowledge of that person and grows there. Hatred makes us go cold for others. We loose interest in others and become interested in ourselves only.
